Water bills are issued once every two months for residential accounts and once a month for commercial accounts. Water bills are based upon actual readings. If a reading cannot be obtained, an estimate will be made based upon historical consumption.

If you are selling or purchasing a home, you or your lawyer should contact the Water Billing Clerk, to tell the Town of the pending change of ownership. There is a $40.00 fee for a Water Arrears Certificate, which your lawyer should get. This is a statement of outstanding charges at the time of closing. The Town will get a final meter reading on the closing date. A final bill will be sent to the vendor at the service address unless the vendor or vendor's lawyer requests the final bill be sent elsewhere.

How to pay your water bills

Payments can be made in any of the following ways below:

In person

Visit Town Hall during regular business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday to pay by:

  • Cash
  • Cheque
  • Debit

* Credit card payments are not accepted.

Online

Add the Town of Smiths Falls as a payee on your online banking. Your account number is the 11 digit account number on your water bill at the top right hand side. 

You must call to confirm your pin number prior to registering for paperless billing.

Pay your bill with one click to our online payment portal. 

Note: There is a fee to pay your water bills online using a credit card. Payments made through our online portal via credit card will be subject to a 3.25% charge.

You may drop your payment off 24 hours a day in the black, locked drop-box outside the main doors of Town Hall - cheques only please. Do not put cash in the drop-box.

Pre-authorized payment plan

A pre-authorized payment plan can help you avoid missing your property bill payment deadline by automatically withdrawing from your bank account. The pre-authorized payment plan is monthly for commercial and every two months for residential billing, with installments being withdrawn on water bill due dates.

Enroll for pre-authorized payments by completing the pre-authorized debit form online or by printing the pre-authorized debit form completing it and submitting the completed form by mail, drop off at Town Hall or emailing it to dsullivan@smithsfalls.ca

Change of mailing address

Please advise our Water Department of any changes to your mailing address by completing an address change form. Please mail, drop off at Town Hall or email the completed form to dsullivan@smithsfalls.ca 

Request water turn on or turn off

Property owners can request to turn the Town's water supply on or off for the following reasons:

  • to complete repairs or renovate a home or building
  • to conduct work on a sprinkler system
  • if they are going on an extended vacation

There is a $35.00 turn off fee and $35.00 turn on fee. We require someone to be home at the time of turn off/on.
