Whether you're starting from scratch or purchasing a new business, there are many steps to be completed. 

First things first....have you acquired your Business License yet?  All businesses in the Town of Smiths Falls are required to have a business license whether home based or brick and mortar. Once acquired, you can plan your grand opening event, and town staff will coordinate for the Mayor and council members to attend.

Will you be doing any renovations or repairs? A Building Permit Application is required prior to any work being done, if you have any questions please contact building@smithsfalls.ca or 613-283-4124 x 1132 and they will be happy to assist you.

Sign Permits are required for all businesses, including home based businesses.

If your location permits, and you wish to have a patio in the summer you will need to complete a Sidewalk Lease Agreement.

If you are looking to make upgrades to your space, the Community Improvement Plan has funding options that may fit your project - take a moment to review the available options.

In addition to that, please review the Business Support and Programs available to assist you with everything you may need to get going.
