All new businesses in the Town of Smiths Falls, including home-based businesses and those occupying a space that previously contained a business, must obtain a business licence from the Town in accordance with the Business Licencing By-law. Business Licencing assists the Town in identifying new businesses, businesses that have moved or changed and ensures business operations meet health and safety requirements.

To apply for a business licence, please complete the business licence application and submit with the identified documentation, including clearance from the Health Unit, AGCO licences, etc., if applicable. The business licence application process is FREE and easy.

Business licencing applications are reviewed by Planning Services staff to confirm parking and Zoning By-law rules are met by the business. Further, an application for business licence is subject to a site inspection by fire and building staff to ensure the proposed business has proper building standards and safety precautions for the use.

Note: Other approvals may be required for your business to be eligible for a business licence. These requirements will be communicated to you through the business licence application process.
