FAQ's

The Heritage House is the Smiths Falls community museum, offering changing local themed exhibitions, art shows, educational programming, rentals and events; in a one of a kind 1860's home. When planning your visit to the museum, please see some of the frequently asked questions the museum receives. If you have a question that is not listed below, please contact the museum directly. 

Do I need an appointment to visit the Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum?
Visitors do not require an appointment to visit the museum. We do ask that groups larger than 10 people contact the museum in advance of visiting, so that the museum can guarantee a tour guide is available. 

If you are coming to the museum for genealogy services, then we ask that you call in advance to make sure that a member of the Lanark County Genealogical Research Society is available to help you navigate the library. 
Is there an admission fee to visit the Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum?
There is an admission fee to visit the museum. For general tours admission is $8.85 plus tax for adults, $6.64 plus tax for students, children and seniors.

For specialty tours (Old Slys Outdoor Tour, Ghost tours, etc.) admission is $10 per person (plus tax). 

Special booking rates can be given to large groups. Please contact the museum for details about group tour bookings. 
What are the museum hours?
The Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum is open Wednesday - Sunday from 10am - 5pm from May until October. Fall hours beginning in November are Wednesday - Friday from 10am - 5pm, Saturday and Sunday from 1pm - 4pm. 

The museum is open by appointment from January until the beginning of April. To book a tour during these month, please contact the museum. 
Do you offer programming for schools?
The Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum offers a variety of unique school programming, designed to educate and entertain students. For more information, please visit the Community Programs page or contact the museum directly for programming details. 
Dose the museum have on-site parking? 
Yes, the Heritage House has a parking lot that is shared with the Smiths Falls Curling Club. Parking is free. 
What other services and amenities are on-site? 
 The Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum is located alongside Old Slys Lock Station, which is on the Rideau Canal; a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

The museum also offers a variety of seasonal and indoor tours, educational programming services, special events, genealogical research services and event space rentals.

How do I become a Heritage House Museum member?

The Smiths Falls Heritage House offers membership opportunities to those who wish to become a member of the museum. By becoming a member, you will receive benefits such as: free general admission to the museum all year, the Heritage House monthly newsletter, 10% off discounts on special events admissions, workshops and children's program and complimentary event perks. Museum members will also be the first to know what events and exhibits are happening at the Heritage House, before the public.

 I'd like to volunteer at the museum. How do I get involved? 
The Heritage House has a variety of volunteer opportunities. This includes gardening on the grounds of the museum, helping with museum special events and decorating for season changes. If you are interested in donating your time at the museum, please reach out by calling 613-283-6311 or at heritagehouse@smithsfalls.ca
I'd like to make a financial contribution to the museum. How do I do that?
The Heritage House greatly appreciates all financial contributions received. To make a contribution you can do so at the museum by cash, card or cheque.
I'd like to donate a family heirloom. What is the process and what happens after its been donated?
The museum welcomes donations which are a part of local history. The Heritage House mission is to "engage the community in preserving, sharing and celebrating the cultural heritage of Smiths Falls. 

Those who wish to donate items may do so by bringing the item to the museum, sending the museum an image of the item, or calling the museum regarding the item. The Heritage House asks that the donator bring as much information as possible with them about the history of the item. All donations to the museum will then be brought to the museum's accessions committee who will determine whether the item would benefit the museum collection.
