The Town of Smiths Falls Requires Occasional Crossing Guards

(for backup coverage)

 

The Town of Smiths Falls is a vibrant, progressive single tier municipality with a population of 9,000. One of Eastern Ontario’s most scenic communities, we are centrally located within an hour of Ottawa, Kingston, Brockville and the US border.

The Town is accepting applications for Occasional Crossing Guards (for backup coverage).  Crossing Guards are responsible for directing and escorting school-aged pedestrians safely across the street. Occasional Crossing Guards are called in on an as-needed basis with minimal notice.

 

The successful applicant will possess:    

 

  • Superior customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate a good sense of judgement to be able to determine timing for safe entry into the flow of traffic
  • Able to display a school crossing stop sign (weight up to 2 pounds) in an upright position so that it is visible to vehicular traffic approaching from each direction, and extend the other arm out parallel for one minute on a frequent basis
  • Must be able to perform crossing duties in all weather conditions
  • Condition of Employment includes a satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable screen check
