The Town of Smiths Falls is very pleased to announce the opening of the Community Improvement Program (CIP) for 2025. The CIP is a tool that municipalities in Ontario can use to stimulate or support economic activity in accordance with local priorities.
Now in its 3rd year under the new guidelines, the CIP is an opportunity for property owners, tenants and businesses to tap into funding sources to potentially improve their property while achieving Council’s strategic objectives. The Smiths Falls CIP includes municipal grants, loans and/or rebates for private sector improvements that stimulate accessible improvements to buildings, attainable housing (including additional residential units), brownfield redevelopment, and downtown building revitalization.
“Over the past two years of the updated CIP program, we have seen some incredibly creative improvements being made to the built form of Smiths Falls, including some exciting façade improvements and changes to make buildings more accessible to all. The revised CIP program has streamlined the process of applying in an effort to make it easier for applicants, and we are looking forward to seeing more projects in 2025 that enhance our building stock downtown and improve our community” says Manager of Development Services Karl Grenke.
For Heritage Property owners, there is an additional incentive to undertake heritage sympathetic improvements to downtown properties.
