  • Media Release: Drinking Water Update

    The Town of Smiths Falls operates a Class 4 state of the art Water Treatment Facility, which is the highest classification for Water Treatment in Ontario. Municipal residential drinking water subsystems are required to be classified from Class 1 to 4 depending on the raw water (untreated water) source.

  • National Day of Remembrance 2024

    WHEREAS 35 years ago, on December 6th 1989, a massacre occurred at a Canadian university that shook our nation. A young man walked in Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, and killed 14 women and injured another 1O;

    and WHEREAS established in 1991 by the Parliament of Canada, December 6th was marked as National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women; and

    WHEREAS on average, every six days a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner, and this year thousands of women will face.

  • Biochar Initiative

    The Smiths Falls biochar pilot project continues to make progress in its effort to contribute to a cleaner environment and reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

    Biochar is described as a type of charcoal primarily used as a soil enhancer made from organic material, like tree branches, exposed to elevated temperatures under low oxygen conditions.

    The Town of Smiths Falls is thrilled to invite expressions of interest from individuals, businesses, or organizations interested in programming a Open Air Market at Centennial Park for the 2025 season. This exciting opportunity, part of a one-year pilot project, will bring the community together from May to September, providing a vibrant space for residents and visitors to experience local food, arts, and culture.

    Community organizations and individuals seeking funding support for 2025 projects can now submit applications for the Smiths Falls Community Grants Program.
