    The votes are in, and the residents of Smiths Falls have chosen their favorites in the Holiday Glow-Off Home Decorating Contest.

    In November, Smiths Falls area residents were invited to register their homes for the decorating contest, tour the town to check out the festive homes, and vote for their top 3 choices.

    The Town of Smiths Falls invites residents, businesses, and property owners to participate in the shaping of the 2025 municipal budget by providing valuable feedback on the initial draft.

    The first draft of the 2025 budget, which outlines proposed service delivery costs and capital projects for the upcoming year, was presented to Council during its meetings on December 9 & 16, 2024.

    The 2025 municipal calendars have arrived and will be delivered to Smiths Falls residents prior to the holidays. The “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” photo contest launched in September 2024 and received over 300 photo submissions.

  • Media Release: Drinking Water Update

    The Town of Smiths Falls operates a Class 4 state of the art Water Treatment Facility, which is the highest classification for Water Treatment in Ontario. Municipal residential drinking water subsystems are required to be classified from Class 1 to 4 depending on the raw water (untreated water) source.

  • National Day of Remembrance 2024

    WHEREAS 35 years ago, on December 6th 1989, a massacre occurred at a Canadian university that shook our nation. A young man walked in Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, and killed 14 women and injured another 1O;

    and WHEREAS established in 1991 by the Parliament of Canada, December 6th was marked as National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women; and

    WHEREAS on average, every six days a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner, and this year thousands of women will face.

  • Biochar Initiative

    The Smiths Falls biochar pilot project continues to make progress in its effort to contribute to a cleaner environment and reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

    Biochar is described as a type of charcoal primarily used as a soil enhancer made from organic material, like tree branches, exposed to elevated temperatures under low oxygen conditions.
