Media Release: Fall Festivities at the Heritage House Museum

As the seasons change, the Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum is preparing to welcome the community with an exciting lineup of fall events. Whether you're looking to explore local history, enjoy family-friendly seasonal activities, or embrace a few spooky thrills, the Museum's fall programming offers memorable experiences for residents and visitors alike.

Hillcrest Cemetery Tour
Step into the world of history and superstition as you tiptoe around the grounds of the Hillcrest Cemetery in Smiths Falls. Guests will lead you through the oldest part of the cemetery, sharing stories of the Town's earliest residents alongside cemetery traditions, symbolism and their origins. Adult tickets (18+) are $15 per person, youth tickets (ages 12-17) are $10 per person.

Fall Fest
On October 4, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, the museum hosts Fall Fest! Spend some time outdoors in the changing colours, and celebrate the season with family friendly activities, community BBQ, games, vendor market, horse-drawn wagon rides and more. Tour museum displays, including the Rideau Artist of the Year art show, and Forged in the Falls manufacturing history and Smiths Falls: Heart of the Rideau Canal. Fall Fest is admission by donation.

The Haunted Heritage House
The Museum invites you to some thrilling nights of fright on October 16,17, 23, 24, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, at 11 Old Slys Road. Tiptoe through the corridors of an 1860’s home, where actors and ghosts will greet you in unsuspecting ways. Groups will be sent through individually to offer a completely spoiler-free experience to the home. With over 40 volunteers, this event will be sure to scare you into the Halloween season.
Tickets for the Haunted Heritage House are $10 per person and are available for sale on sfhauntedhouse.eventbrite.ca. Tickets will also be available at the door, on a first come, first serve basis. This event usually sells out, and it is strongly encouraged to purchase tickets in advance.

Museum Ghost Tales
For those who are looking for less screams, the museum recommends booking a museum Ghost Tour. Guests will discover tales of ghostly rumors and whispers from the area and the museum by candlelight. Tours are available for $10 per person on October 8, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm or by appointment in October or November.

Downtown Ghost Walks
The museum is hosting its last Downtown Ghost Walk on October 9 through the historic streets of Smiths Falls. Experienced guides will lead you on a journey filled with chilling tales of the town's haunted and mysterious past. Get ready to explore eerie alleyways and hear ghostly stories that will send shivers down your spine. Tours meet at Town Hall: 77 Beckwith Street North at 7:00 p.m. Tickets should be reserved in advance through the museum on at GhostWalksSF.eventbrite.ca.

Community Pumpkin Carving Contest
Show off your jack-o-lantern creations in a Community Pumpkin Carving Contest. Entries for the Community Pumpkin Carving Contest can be dropped off to the museum on October 23 and will be displayed on the grounds until October 31 for public voting. A voting drop box can be found on site for the community to choose their favourites.
