World Water Day 2025

WHEREAS the theme of World Water Day 2025 is 'Glacier Preservation';

AND WHEREAS glaciers are critical to life - their meltwater is essential for drinking water,agriculture, industry, clean energy production and healthy ecosystems;

AND WHEREAS rapidly melting glaciers are causing uncertainty to water flows, with profoundimpacts on people and the planet;

AND WHEREAS global reductions in carbon emissions and local strategies to adapt toshrinking glaciers are essential;

AND WHEREAS this World Water Day, we must work together to put glacier preservation atthe core of our plans to tackle climate change and the global water crisis.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, Shawn Pankow, Mayor of the Town ofSmiths Falls, do hereby proclaim March 22 , 2025 as World Water Day 2025 in the Townof Smiths Falls and encourage our citizens to work together to reduce greenhouse gasemissions and manage meltwater more sustainably for people and the planet.
