Town of Smiths Falls Receives Over $13 Million for Critical Water Infrastructure Improvements
On Friday, May 8, the Town of Smiths Falls welcomed Premier Doug Ford, along with provincial representatives, to the Town’s Water Treatment Plant to announce a significant provincial investment in local infrastructure. Through the Government of Ontario’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program – Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS), the Town has been awarded $13,306,867 to support critical water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades.
The funding will support the Smiths Falls trunk watermain upgrade and sewer separation project, helping improve water system reliability and service for approximately 1,380 existing homes within the community and future proof the system to accommodate population growth.
This investment forms part of the Province’s broader commitment to strengthening municipal infrastructure and supporting long-term growth across Ontario communities. The project will modernize critical infrastructure, improve system performance, and help support future residential and economic development in Smiths Falls.
“On behalf of the Town of Smiths Falls, I would like to thank the Government of Ontario for this significant investment in our community,” said Mayor Shawn Pankow. “This funding will allow us to move forward with critical infrastructure upgrades that will improve the reliability and capacity of our water and wastewater systems while supporting the continued growth of Smiths Falls for years to come.”
“This project is an important investment in our community,” said Andrew MacNaughton, Manager of Water and Wastewater Services. “We appreciate the Premier’s visit to our state-of-the-art facility, as well as the support of MPP John Jordan and the Government of Ontario. Their recognition of this critical work helps ensure we can continue maintaining and improving essential water and wastewater services for residents across Smiths Falls.”
The Town looks forward to advancing this important infrastructure project and continuing to invest in safe, reliable municipal services for residents and businesses.
