National Day of Mourning 2025

WHEREAS every worker has the right to return home safe and sound at theend of each workday; and

WHEREAS the Town of Smiths Falls honours the millions of Ontariansimpacted by a workplace fatality, injury or illness;

WHEREAS April 28th is observed across Canada and in countries aroundthe world as the National Day of Mourning for workers killed, injured,disabled, or suffer disease as a result of work; and

WHEREAS the Town of Smiths Falls recognizes the importance of Healthand Safety education through the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

WHEREAS, by working together - with employers, workers and health andsafetypartners, we can prevent injuries and deaths to workers before they occur.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Shawn Pankow, Mayor of theTown of Smiths Falls, do hereby proclaim April 28th, 2025 as National Day ofMourning in the Town of Smiths Falls.
