Black History Month - February 2026
WHEREAS February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate and honour the diversity, history and culture of Black Canadians and their many contributions to a thriving and prosperous Canada; and
WHEREAS Black Canadians have played an instrumental role in the shaping and development of Canada's heritage and identity, Black History Month is therefore a time to recognize these contributions and to foster belonging and inclusion through continued education of the stories and history of Black Canadians; and
WHEREAS the Corporation of the Town of Smiths Falls is committed to fostering a thriving and inclusive community that opposes racial discrimination in all its forms, including working to eliminate discrimination and marginalization often faced by Black Canadians;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, Mayor Shawn Pankow, do hereby proclaim the month of February 2026 as 'Black History Month' in the Town of Smiths Falls.
