Male arrested Theft Charges:

On August 20th 2024, the Smiths Falls Police Service entered into a theft investigation from a south end business. Police were provided a description of the suspect and a description of the items stolen. The male was observed by police leaving the parking lot on a bicycle. Jeffrey PETERS (41yrs) of Smiths Falls was arrested for theft under $5000. The continued investigation revealed Mr. PETERS was also on conditions stemming from two probation orders, leading to two additional charges of breach of probation.

Mr. PETERS was released from police custody on a Form 10 Undertaking with a court date to answer to his charges.

Male Arrested for theft and breaching release conditions:

On August 22th the Smiths Falls Police Service attended a local business in the southern part of town regarding a male who was shoplifting. Gyorgy LAKATOS (58yrs) of Scarborough, Ontario was located on the property by police and in possession of the stolen goods. Mr. LAKATOS resisted arrest and was taken into custody without further incident. The investigation revealed Mr. LAKATOS was already on several release orders, Form 10 Undertaking and a probation order from other jurisdictions throughout Ontario for theft. Mr. LAKATOS was charged accordingly and held in police custody awaiting a bail hearing to answer to his charges.

Road Rage, Mischief- Public assistance requested- witness

On August 24th a ROAD RAGE incident was reported to the Smiths Falls Police Service. Police are requesting the public’s assistance for any witnesses that may have observed this incident that took place on LOMBARD STREET in Smiths Falls at the TRAFFIC LIGHTS near the Dairy Queen on SATURDAY August 24th shortly after 2 pm. Police are looking to identify a male driver of a BLACK FORD TAURUS. The driver is described as a white male, 40-50 years of age, short in height with a stocky build with broad chest and shoulders.

The public are encouraged to call the Smiths Falls Police with any information or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Female Arrested on Domestic Assault Charges

On August 24th the Smiths Falls Police Service entered into an investigation of a Domestic Assault that occurred in the victim’s home. Upon completion of that investigation officers had grounds to charge the female partner with domestic assault. The female party was located a short time later; she was arrested and charged with assault.

The accused was released from police custody on a Form 10 Undertaking with a court date to answer to her charge.
