Firearm Trafficking Investigation Leads to Arrest
On July 23, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service, led by the Smiths Falls Police Crime Unit, executed a search warrant and arrested one individual in connection with a firearms trafficking investigation.
As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old male of Smiths Falls, has been charged with the following offences:
· Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm x 1· Trafficking in a Firearm x 1
· Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x 1
· Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing There Was a Firearm Present x 1
· Carrying a Concealed Weapon x 1
The accused was held in custody pending a scheduled bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice.
Wanted subject arrested after IPV investigation
On August 6, 2026, members of the Smiths Falls Police Service, while conducting proactive patrols, located and arrested a wanted individual without incident. The accused was wanted in connection with an intimate partner violence investigation that occurred on August 4, 2026.
As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old male has been charged with one count of Assault. The accused was held in custody pending a scheduled bail hearing.
Smiths Falls Police Make Arrest Following Theft Investigation
On August 6, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received a report of a theft that had just occurred at a local business. Officers responded and immediately commenced an investigation. With the assistance of security surveillance footage, investigators were able to quickly identify a suspect. On August 8, 2026, the suspect was located and arrested without incident.
As a result of the investigation, Shawn CONNORS, 42, of Smiths Falls, has been charged with one count of Theft Under $5,000.
The accused was subsequently released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
Theft from Vehicle Investigation Results in Charges
On August 13, 2026, members of the Smiths Falls Police Service, while conducting patrols, located and arrested a wanted individual without incident. The accused was wanted in connection with an investigation that began on May 12, 2026, after police received reports of tools being stolen from a vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, Dennis DAYE, 40, of Smiths Falls, has been charged with:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 x 1
- Possession of a Credit Card x 1
- Failure to Comply with a Probation Order x 1
The accused was subsequently released from custody on conditions and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
Wanted Male Arrested Following Foot Pursuit
On August 14, 2026, members of the Smiths Falls Police Service observed a male known to be wanted on an outstanding warrant for theft. When officers attempted to engage with the individual, he fled on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, Mathew DINELLE-DOWDALL, 31, has been additionally charged with:
- Obstruct Peace Officer x 1
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Cocaine) x 1
- Failure to Comply with a Probation Order x 1
- One offence under the Railway Safety Act
The accused was held in custody pending a scheduled bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice.
The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
