High Risk Offender in Smiths Falls

Aaron Gilpin currently has been seen in the parks and gazebo area in Smiths Falls and trespassed from a local Tim Hortons. 

Smiths Falls Police are alerting the public as a precautionary measure regarding a High-Risk Violent Sex Offender whom they have deemed to be at an elevated risk to re-offend now that he is no longer on any conditions of release and recently was observed back in Smiths Falls. Although Aaron Gilpin does present a safety risk to the public, his rights are guaranteed under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms Act.

Aaron Gilpin has an extensive criminal record history dating back to the early 2000’s. Convictions include a brutal child related sexual assault, assault, weapons offences, disarming a police officer, break and enters, thefts. He has been in and out of custody for several years, the last conviction ending in 2025.

Aaron Gilpin came to the recent attention of police after a suspicious person’s call was received at the gazebo area beside town hall. Although no criminal offences occurred, it caused concern to the officers.

The Chief of Police has the authority under Ontario Regulation 412/23 of the Community Safety and Policing Act of Ontario if they reasonably believe that the individual poses a significant risk to other persons or property and the disclosure of the personal information is necessary to reduce the risk as described.
