Youth Charged Following Weapons Investigation -IPV Investigation Leads to Drug Charges -Arrest Made in Assault Investigation

Arrest Made Following Intimate Partner Violence Investigation
On June 22, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received a report of an active intimate partner violence (IPV) incident. Officers attended the location and commenced an investigation.

As a result of the investigation, the suspect surrendered to police without incident and was taken into custody. A 40-year-old Smiths Falls resident has been charged with one count of mischief. The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing.

Arrest Made in Assault Investigation
On June 29th, 2026, Smiths Falls Police responded to a residential building for a report of an assault that just occurred. Officers arrived on scene and commenced the investigation. The suspect was identified and arrested at the scene with out incident.

As a result of the investigation, 40-year-old Joshua MCNEIL of Smiths Falls stands charged with one count of assault. The accused was later released from custody with conditions and a scheduled court date.

One Arrested After Residential Disturbance
On July 1, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received a 9-1-1 call reporting a disturbance outside a local residence. Officers attended the scene and initiated an investigation. During the course of the investigation, police determined that one individual was in breach of their court-imposed bail conditions. The individual was subsequently taken into custody without incident.

As a result of the investigation, 24-year-old Britlee WATTS of Smiths Falls stands charged with one count of failing to comply with their release order. The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing.

Charge Laid in Harassment Investigation
On July 2nd, 2026, Smiths Falls Police received a 9-1-1 alerting a disturbance inside a local group home. Where a staff member feared for their safety. Officers attended the residence and commenced the investigation. One person was taken into custody at the scene without incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 63-year-old male from Smiths Falls stands charged with one count of criminal harassment-threatening conduct. The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing. 

Youth Charged Following Weapons Investigation
On July 3, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received a 9-1-1 call reporting that an individual armed with a handgun was making threats at a local residence.

Officers responded immediately and launched an investigation. Police learned that the suspect had fled the scene and returned to a residence in Rideau Lakes. With the assistance of members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Leeds County, Smiths Falls Police attended the residence to locate the suspect.

Upon police arrival, the suspect fled through a bedroom window in an attempt to evade arrest. Following a brief foot pursuit, officers took the individual into custody without further incident. As part of the investigation, police subsequently seized a replica BB handgun.

As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old youth has been charged with:

·         Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

·         Carrying a Concealed Weapon

·         Use of a Firearm While Committing an Offence

·         Criminal Harassment – Threatening Conduct

·         Failure to Comply with a Probation Order

The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing. As the accused is a young person under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, no further identifying information can be released.

Charge Laid Following Sexual Assault Investigation
On June 27, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received information regarding an alleged sexual assault. Members of the Smiths Falls Police Service, and the Smiths Falls Police Crime Unit, commenced an investigation into the incident.

As a result of the investigation, on July 6, 2026, a suspect was taken into custody. A 33-year-old Smiths Falls resident has been charged with one count of Sexual Assault. The accused was held in custody pending a bail court hearing.

IPV Investigation Leads to Drug Charges
On July 7, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting an intimate partner violence (IPV) incident in progress. Officers responded immediately and located an active disturbance upon arrival. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

Following the arrest, officers conducted a search incidental to arrest and seized a quantity of drugs believed to be controlled substances under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old Smiths Falls resident has been charged with:

·         Assault × 1

·         Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking × 7

·         Failure to Comply with a Probation Order × 4

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Motor Vehicle Collision Results in Arrest
On July 7, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received a report of a motor vehicle collision in the area of Beckwith Street and Elmsley Street.

Officers attended the scene and commenced an investigation. During the course of the investigation, police determined that one of the drivers involved was in breach of court ordered probation conditions. Officers also located a large knife beneath the driver's seat, contrary to the individual's no weapons condition. The driver was arrested at the scene without incident.

As a result of the investigation, Kale LOVE, 37 years old, of Smiths Falls, has been charged with failure to comply with their probation order × 2 as well as an additional provincial charge under the highway traffic act. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Resisting Arrest Charge Laid
On July 9, 2026, the Smiths Falls Police Service received a report of an unwanted person refusing to leave a residence.

Officers attended the scene and commenced an investigation. During the course of the investigation, police determined that the individual was in breach of both court ordered probation conditions and a release order. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody.

As a result of the investigation, Zoe HAMILL, 33 years old, of Ottawa, has been charged with:

·         Resisting a Peace Officer

·         Failure to Comply with a Release Order

·         Failure to Comply with a Probation Order × 2

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
