Smiths Falls invites proposals for waterfront property redevelopment opportunity

The Town of Smiths Falls will be seeking proposals for redevelopment concepts that will see the revitalization of the former Water Treatment Plant at 25 Old Mill Road, a key municipal waterfront property.

“We are looking forward to reviewing innovative project proposals that will ultimately see our vision for this unique property come to fruition,” said Shawn Pankow, Mayor of the Town of Smiths Falls. “This property is a critical piece to the overall vision Council has for the future of Smiths Falls.”

The water treatment plant property is a pivotal Smiths Falls location overlooking the Rideau Canal and Centennial Park, and within walking distance of the downtown core. The redevelopment of this property will transform the area and seamlessly connect the downtown core to public park spaces on the beautiful Rideau Canal waterway.

The tender opens March 14, 2022 and closes May 6, 2022 at noon.

“We are really excited about the potential this opportunity represents for continued growth in the Town of Smiths Falls” said Julia Crowder, Manager of Economic Development & Tourism. “As one of the few remaining waterfront properties along the Rideau Canal, the property is in a prime location and offers incredible mixed-use development potential for the right investor who shares our vision”

Over the last 5 years, the Town of Smiths Falls has witnessed a flurry of revitalization projects including a $14M investment to completely refresh Beckwith Street, the main downtown street. Major infrastructure and community investment has positioned the Town as regional hub for retail and recreational for residents and visitors alike. Real Estate values and profitability in Smiths Falls has also significantly increased driving major developments which capitalize on the growing demand as more residents choose Smiths Falls as a place to live.
