Celebrate the festive season in Smiths Falls with the Celebration of Lights, a visit with Santa Claus, and Santa’s mailbox

The Town of Smiths Falls is inviting citizens and visitors to come celebrate the holiday season with a variety of festive activities in Smiths Falls.

Now in its 8th year, the Celebration of Lights will once again take place in Centennial Park, offering a magical holiday experience for visitors with a stroll through the holiday light displays arranged alongside the Rideau Canal.

On Dec. 12 and 19 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., the Celebration of Lights will have an exciting addition with a visit from Santa Claus. Young people and families are encouraged to drive by, give Santa a wave hello and tour the light displays for a fun evening out. Santa asks that you visit with a drive-through experience only to ensure a safe Christmas season for all.

“We know this year is a little bit different but there are lots of fun things to do right here in town to help get into the holiday spirit this year,” said Art Manhire, Director of Community Services. “Come celebrate the season with an old-fashioned, family-friendly  activity outdoors.”

In other holiday news, the Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum invites children to send their letters to Santa by posting them in the special North Pole mailbox located at the museum before Dec. 16. Participants will receive a personalized video message from Santa Claus himself in return.

While out and about in Smiths Falls, citizens and visitors are encouraged to spend some time shopping in town. For some excellent holiday gift ideas, take a closer look at  the Smiths Falls Local Subscription Box (https://www.sflocal.ca/) program coordinated by the Smiths Falls & District Chamber of Commerce and the Smiths Falls Downtown Business Association, or the Merry & Bright box (https://www.smithsfalls.ca/experience/) available from select local businesses.

No matter where you visit this holiday season, remember to wear a mask when indoor public spaces and maintain a distance of two-metres between yourself and those from outside your household.
