Additional safety measures announced to comply with provincial guidelines and reduce the spread of COVID-19

The Town of Smiths Falls is announcing the introduction of additional safety measures to comply with provincial safety measures and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community.

On Sept. 22, 2021, the province of Ontario announced that proof of vaccination is required in indoor community spaces, as well as restaurants, music venues, and other indoor gathering locations. On Dec 10, the province further announced that as of Jan 4 the province will require people 12 years of age or older to use their QR code to access settings where proof of vaccination is required,

To ensure public safety and comply with provincial guidelines, effective Jan 4, the Town of Smiths Falls will require community centre patrons to provide proof of vaccination through QR code, along with a separate piece of photo identification. QR verification will speed up processing of vaccine verification for admission and will be the only option accepted at the Community Centre in order to gain entry. This requirement will apply to any venue that requires proof of vaccination.

Citizens who have not yet accessed proof of vaccination are able to download and then save the electronic version of the vaccine certificate with a QR code to their phone or print a paper copy. A separate piece of photo identification showing name and date of birth will also be required along with their proof of vaccination QR code.

For more information please visit Ontario’s Vaccine Portal at: https://ontario.ca/proofofvaccination.

The Town requests citizens be patient during this process, and treat municipal staff and other patrons with respect while the Town transitions to QR code only verification.

Please contact the Community Centre by phone at 613-284-2724 or by email at ttorch@smithsfalls.ca with any questions relating to QR codes and facility access.

The Town of Smiths Falls will also be taking additional actions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by closing Town Hall to the public between Dec 24, 2021 at noon and Jan, 2022. Town Hall is expected to re-open on Jan. 4, 2022. Staff will continue to work from the office during this time.

Residents are encouraged to contact staff via email or phone, and to arrange payment or drop-offs in advance. A full directory of municipal staff can be found at www.smithsfalls.ca/get-in-touch/

Residents are also encouraged to continue to use online payments when possible. Residents can register for e-Bill payment through the Town of Smiths Falls website, www.smithsfalls.ca; online payments can be made via credit card, PayPal, or through online financial institutions.
