Smiths Falls announces additional openings, changes to grocery delivery services

The Town of Smiths Falls is pleased to announce the upcoming re-opening of the Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum and the Smiths Falls Public Library, for selected services.

“We are excited to see the continued re-opening of Smiths Falls’ facilities this week,” said Art Manhire, Director of Community Services for the Town of Smiths Falls. “The Heritage House Museum and public library services have been missed in the community over the past few months and will be a good resource for parents at home with children and looking for summertime activities.”

The Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum will re-open beginning Saturday, June 20 for museum tours and research appointments. Pre-registration is recommended and will allow the museum to maintain appropriate numbers inside at any one time and for pre-screening before arrival.

Visitors arriving without an appointment will be required to wait in a designated area until visitor numbers are appropriate to maintain physical distancing. Guided tours will be offered in French and English for the following:

• 1920s Smiths Falls
• Ghost Walks
• Murder Mystery Tours
• Smiths Falls Weddings
• Smiths Falls Indigenous & Settlement
• Old Slys Rapids & Lockstations
• Heritage House Museum Tour (General)

The museum will open Thursday to Sunday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Payment is encouraged via credit or debit. Visitors can pre-book their tours at www.eventbrite.ca/e/110003361014 or by calling 613-283-6311 or emailing heritagehouse@smithsfalls.ca.

The Smiths Falls Public Library will re-open beginning Monday, June 22, for selected services. Public access to the library will be available by appointment only for internet, printing, scanning or copy services. Library users will not able to touch or select books in the library.

Contactless delivery will also be available upon request and books continue to be reserved online for pick-up. Material returned to the library is quarantined for 72 hours and disinfected between each patron. Please visit www.smithsfallslibrary.ca for more information.

In addition, the grocery delivery service offered to individuals and families supported by the Smiths Falls Community Food Bank will continue. The project is a partnership between Lanark County Programs, the Town of Smiths Falls and Rideau Community Health Services and continues to see regular orders for delivery.

The free grocery delivery program offered through a partnership between the Town of Smiths Falls and Big Brothers Big Sisters Lanark County will be discontinued, effective immediately. During operation the program filled an important need in the community and the Town extends its appreciation to Big Brothers Big Sisters and Andress’ Your Independent Grocery for their support.
