FALL PROMOTION – Rear Yard Composter Units
Backyard composting can divert as much as 30% of the organic household wastes that are often sent unnecessarily to landfill sites. Residents who use a rear yard composter can process food wastes and create a nutrient rich humus which is good for lawns, plants and gardens.
During the months of September and October, the Town and the Rideau Environmental Action League (REAL) are jointly promoting rear yard composting to increase community participation in organics diversion. REAL is taking orders for cedar composters. Plastic Composter units can now be purchased at a reduced price of $30.00 (with coupon) at the Town Hall up until October 31st. Additional information on rear yard composting can be found on the Town’s website at http://www.smithsfalls.ca/environment/waste-recycling/
