The Town of Smiths Falls ice surfaces is reopening!
There will be a staggered reopening: the Community Centre ice pad will open Sept. 21; the Youth Arena ice pad will open Sept. 28, and the walking concourse and meeting rooms on the second floor of the community centre will open Oct. 5. COVID-19 ENHANCED SAFETY MEASURES
The Town of Smiths Falls reserves the right to amend or change these safety measures as needed to ensure the safety of all staff, users, and residents of the community.
- Under the Provincial Framework for Stage 3 and Public Health guidelines, the following restrictions on team sports and live sporting events are in place.
- Please also refer to the Provincial Restrictions under Stage 3 Re-opening:
- Please stay home if you are ill, have symptoms of COVID-19, have been in contact with someone who known symptoms, or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
- Each group/league/association will be responsible for COVID-19 screening and contract tracing of each participant prior to entering the facility.
- Guardians/Spectators are responsible for COVID-19 screen prior to entering the facility. The self assessment can be found on the Health Unit’s website.
- Any person who becomes ill or exhibits possible COIVD-19 symptoms must immediately notify the group/league/association and exit the facility.
- Masks must be worn at all times while within the facility, including dressing rooms. Masks can be removed while engaged in physical activity.
Team Sports:
- Team sports may only be practiced or played within the facility if they do not allow for physical contact between players or if they have been modified to avoid physical contact between the players and do not exceed gather limits of 50 people excluding staff of the facility.
- Organized team sports that practiced or played by players in a league may only be practiced or played within the facility if the league either:
- Contains no more than 50 players and does not permit its teams to play against teams outside of the league, or
- Divides its teams into groups of 50 or fewer players and does not permit teams in different groups to play against one another or against teams outside of league.
- Every person who engages in sports or recreational fitness activity at the facility, other than a team sport, must always maintain a physical distance of at least 2 metres from every other person, unless they share a household, during the activity.
- Prolonged or deliberate contact while playing sports is not permitted.
- All users under the age of thirteen (13) or need assistance with getting dressed must arrive to the facility dressed in their gear, excluding skates, gloves and helmets.
Arrival and Departure Community Centre:
Users may arrive no sooner than 15 minutes prior to there ice time.
Users who require assistance:
- Users who require guardians to assist with final stages of dress are to enter the main entrance and follow the directional signage to the designated final areas of dress to assist the user.
- Upon the completion of dress, the guardian is to relocate to the spectator area of the facility and is to remain there until the completion of the rental. Walking track use is prohibited.
Users who do not require assistance:
- Users who are able to dress themselves are to enter on the side of the building. Signage will be posted on the exterior doors. Additional directional signage will be posted in the hall to direct to proper dressing rooms.
- Guardians/spectators who accompany the user are not permitted to enter at the side of the building. They are to enter and exit through the front entrance and follow the directional signage to the guardian/spectator area. Walking track use is prohibited.

- Users who require guardians to assist with final stages of dress are to enter through the front entrance of the facility main entrance and follow the directional signage to the designated final areas of dress to assist the user. Upon completion of ice time users and guardians will exit out of the side of the building. Signage will be posted.
- Upon the completion of dress, the guardian is to relocate to the spectator area of the facility and is to remain there until the completion of the rental.
Users who do not require assistance:
- Users who are able to dress themselves are to enter in the corridor between the Youth Arena and Community Centre. Signage will be posted on the exterior doors. Additional directional signage will be posted in the hall to direct to proper dressing rooms. Upon completion of ice time users will exit at the back of the hall in the dressing room hallway.
- Guardians/spectators who accompany the user are not permitted to enter at the side of the building. They are to enter through the front entrance and follow the directional signage to the guardian/spectator area. Guardians/Spectators are required to exit out of the side door.

Dressing Room Usage:
- All users must wear a face mask while in the dressing room.
- Each group will be limited to 10 minutes in the dressing room prior to their scheduled ice time and 10 minutes after they leave the ice. Participants are encouraged to arrive dressed, except for skates, gloves and helmet.
- Users thirteen (13) years or under, or users who require guardians to assist in final stages of dress are required to come to the facility dressed and use the space designated within the seated area with the facility. Please see arrival/departure for your designated entries/exits.
- Groups who exceed their limited 10-minute dressing room allocation will be warned once by rink staff and will be provided a warning letter. Should the group commit a second offence the group will be removed from the schedule. No refund will be granted. No exceptions.
- Two dressing rooms per hour of ice.
- Coaches/Refs will not be allocated a dressing room.
- All participants must remain in the dressing room(s) until their scheduled ice time.
- Showers are not permitted.
Miscellaneous:
- Users are not to share water bottles. Water bottles must have the participants name on it.
- Spitting will not be tolerated at any time. Should your group be caught spitting and additional cleaning is required, your group will be charged a cleaning fee as well as issued a warning. Should a second offence occur the group will be removed from the schedule. No refund will be granted. No exceptions.
- Groups will be limited to 10 minutes in the dressing room after they leave the ice surface and must exit the facility immediately.
- Waiting/conversing in the lobby is not permitted.
- Once you leave the facility you are not permitted back in.
- Hockey gloves must always be worn while on the ice.
- Time keepers must wear a mask.
- The canteen will remain closed until further notice.
- Please be aware of your surroundings and look for signage that has been posted.
