The Public Works and Utilities Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of roads, bridges, sidewalks, public water and sewer systems, storm drainage, street lighting, tree maintenance, waste and recycling, traffic signal operations and capital improvement projects.
The Public Works and Utilities Department offices are located at 11 Air Care Drive. Hours of Operation are 7:30am to 4:00pm from Monday to Friday. Requests for service during regular hours may be reported by calling 613-283-4124 Ext 3302. After hour emergencies relating to roads, water or sewers may be reported by calling 613-284-1430.
The Town currently manages a winter control program that provides service for 69km of roadways, sidewalks, facilities and public parking lots. As part of this program, Town staff carry out a broad range of activities that include weather monitoring, patrolling, snow plowing, salting, sanding and snow removals. All road clearing activities are otherwise carried out in accordance with the standards prescribed under Ontario Regulation 239/02 (Minimum Maintenance Standards). A number of factors such as temperature (air/ground), forecasted weather and precipitation levels all determine when response activities should take place.
No person shall park or stand a vehicle on any municipal street or municipal parking lot during the hours of 12:00am to 7:00am from November 15th to March 31st of the following year.
The Town of Smiths Falls is a member of the Ontario One Call program. Participation in this service was mandated by the province under the “Ontario Underground Infrastructure Notification System Act, 2012”. Ontario One Call will relay your locate request to the Town of Smiths Falls, as well as other telecommunications, hydro and gas utilities participating in the program. You will be provided with a timely, free locate of the underground utilities in the area so you can complete your project SAFELY.
