January 9 – April 20: Cultures of the World Exploration exhibition- By displaying his collection of world dolls and post cards, Arnel Pattemore will provide a truly unique exhibit and discussion on world exploration and the danger of traditional culture's disappearing. "The world is getting smaller all the time," he added. "We really do live in a world that's changing rapidly and a world that is becoming very common." Through his travels to 120 countries over the years Pattemore has been exposed to many traditional cultures, but has also seen the impact Westernization has had on these traditions. March 1 – April 27: The Gifts of the North – Artist and Sculptor Janet Hannan has lived over half of her life in Northwestern Ontario. This exhibit of 18 figures is her "Gifts of the North." Each figure teaches, interprets, and describes a fact of the best of living and loving a life lived in Northwestern Ontario. Each figure is made with love and precision, beading, stitching, a mix of medias and inspiration of colours and materials that interpret a passion for life in the north and a love for the heritage in the north. Friday, April 20 – “Titanic: Pride of the White Star Line” Performance –April 15th, 2012 marks the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic in the North Atlantic Ocean. Join the Heritage House Museum and the Smiths Falls & District Historical Society and step back in time to 1912 with this hour and a half long voyage with musician David Archicald. With a carefully selected blend of songs that were performed on the Titanic (ragtime, music hall and hymns) and original compositions, the stage is set for a musical voyage you won’t soon forget. Add to this the poignant stories of passengers and crew and you will be transported to the opulent days of Edwardian society onboard the greatest ship of its day.This fundraising evening will be held at the Smiths Falls Squash & Curling Club with doors opening at 7:00 p.m. and entertainment starting at 7:30 p.m.. Tickets of $20.00 per person include admission, hors d’oeuvres & refreshments are now available at the museum. May 5 to October 28 – The Legend of Frost & Wood: Outstanding in their Field Exhibition -
It was 1839 when Ebenezer Frost and Alexander Wood formed a partnership that would forever change the history of Smiths Falls. Now 173 years later, Heritage House Museum is pleased to present the story of The Frost & Wood Company Ltd. a home grown industry that became world renowned. Discover how Frost & Wood impacted the community as an employer, a thriving industry and the creator of agricultural implements, which became a part of rural communities across North America and abroad.
This exhibition has been brought to you through a partnership with the Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN) and the Virtual Museum of Canada (VMC). May 7 to July 29 – Smiths Falls Police Service -Putting the Community First for 125 Years - The year 2012 signifies a milestone for Smiths Falls Police Service with the celebration of its 125th Anniversary! Finding their origins in the 1850s, before there was an organized police force, civilians were appointed as part time Constables to uphold local law and order. It wasn’t until 1887, when the Town of Smiths Falls hired a full time Chief of Police, that the Smiths Falls Police Service was born. This one man Police department was in place until 1910, the Chief working 14 hour days, 7 days a week! Discover policing before patrol cars, radios, speed cameras, and modern technology with this special exhibition at Heritage House Museum. June 3 - Doors Open- Smiths Falls - Explore unique, historic buildings and sites in Smiths Falls. On this day, Heritage House Museum will celebrate the mill owners who built this 1860's Victorian home and their two mills that were built on and powered by the Old Sly’s rapids on the historic Rideau River. 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., free admission
June 16 - “REMEMBRANCE RUN” (Heart and Stroke 5k Run/Walk) - The Remembrance Run is the 1st annual 5k run or walk in Smiths Falls in loving memory of Wilf Richards. Let’s get moving and put your heart into raising funds for critical heart and stroke research and education that continues to protect and save lives. This is an event for any age and the whole family.

Aug. 5 to Dec. 21 – Lest We Forget – The Exhibit - Inspired by the students of the Smiths Falls District Collegiate Institute and the Veterans of Smiths Falls, experience a personal account of war and conflict at the Heritage House Museum. This special exhibition showcases the Lest We Forget Project, which once brought history alive in the classrooms of Smiths Falls. Follow the stories of heroes commemorated on the Smiths Falls cenotaph monument, through the young historians who brought their names to life once again. July & August - Making History Children’s Workshop Series - Throughout the summer the museum will host half day workshops where different skills and talents will be taught by special guest instructors. Oct. 6 - Spirited Evening Cemetery Tour will be offered Saturday evening starting at 7:00 p.m. Heritage House Museum will kick off the haunting season with a spirited tour through Hillcrest Cemetery by candle light as you hear stories and learn more about our town’s rich past. The tour cost is $5.00 for adults; $4.00 for Youth (6-18 yrs.). Guided tours will leave every 20 minutes, you must reserve your space in advance by calling 613-283-6311. These tours will fill up fast. You don’t want to miss out!
Nov. 3 – December 19: 31st Annual Art Show & Sale, Original works by over 25 local artists. Nov. 18: Capital City Chorus Performance – Back by popular demand!! It will be a Dickens of a Christmas concert as Heritage House Museum host our annual fundraising performance of this 80 men Capital City Chorus. Performance at the Smiths Falls District Collegiate Institute begins at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $10.00 per person and are available at the museum - 11 Old Sly's Road, Smiths Falls, ON 613-283-6311 or 613-283-8560 ext. 2206.
December 2: Victorian Christmas Tea, Share in the sights, sounds and flavours of a traditional Christmas Tea at Heritage House Museum in Smiths Falls. The sounds of carols sung by a local quartet around the grand piano and the memories of a bygone era await you. Gather around our traditional decorated tree in the parlour and enjoy a cup of tea or hot apple cider with some home baked seasonal treats. Experience a Christmas of past with traditional decoration throughout the museum and perhaps encounter a visit from a jolly ol' soul.
