Railway History Project
The Smiths Falls Railway History Project is a community-based project presented by the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario, highlighting our town’s rich railway history.
Working with local students, the project will capture stories and memories from the men and women who have been impacted by the railway in Smiths Falls. It will also see the development of an exhibit featured at the museum focusing on the history of railroading in the community, as well as an interactive website and education program for elementary students.
The museum is looking for members of the community to assist with the project. Do you know someone in your family, a friend or relative who worked on the railway? Or have a story to tell? An experience to share? What was our town like at the height of the railway? How were local businesses affected? We want to know and we need your help.
Contact the museum if you would like to share your story or if you would like to volunteer with this project. The museum can be reached by phone at 613-283-5696 or by email at info@rmeo.org. Visit the RMEO website at www.rmeo.org for more information.
Project partners are the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Town of Smiths Falls, TVCogeco, Canadian Pacific Railway and Upper Canada District School Board.
