Lanark County Genealogical Society (LCGS) - Reference Library
The Genealogical Reference Library holds an interesting collection of genealogical resource materials. It offers the perfect start to uncovering your family mysteries.
The library is operated on a self help basis with a Librarian on site at various times who can offer assistance. A $2.00 Researcher Pass is required (good for one year from date of issue) to access the genealogical section located in the basement of Heritage House Museum.
What are the LCGS Holdings?
Family histories, census, cemeteries, church records, newspapers, general history, telephone directories, newsletters & other finding aids, along with the Alice Hughes collection.
HOURS OF OPERATION
Located at the Heritage House Museum, 11 Old Sly’s Rd. Smiths Falls
May to late December — daily, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
January to late April — Weekdays only, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Library encourages you to begin your genealogical research, and to learn all you can about your family names. There are many resources available at the Library to help you in your search. These resources include the following:
- The Record News on microform from 1887 to present
- Current Ontario telephone directories
- Index to inscriptions for several Lanark County cemeteries as well as headstone transcriptions
- Family histories
- Collection of clippings from the local paper organized by year and subject.
- Local history collection
- Public Internet access available at the Library
